Everyone knows ashwagandha. Almost nobody talks about holy basil (tulsi) โ even though it has human clinical evidence for stress and cortisol, plus centuries of use in Ayurveda where it's literally called 'the incomparable one'.
What the evidence shows
Human trials on holy basil extracts have reported reductions in stress symptoms, anxiety measures, and cortisol, along with support for healthy blood sugar levels.
It's gentler than ashwagandha โ less sedating, fine for daytime โ which makes it a great first adaptogen or a daytime companion to evening ashwagandha.
Tea vs capsules
Tulsi tea is a beautiful daily ritual (2โ3 cups), widely available and inexpensive โ ideal if you want the gentle, habitual version.
Capsules with standardized extract (typically 300โ600mg) deliver the studied doses โ ideal if you want the clinical effect without drinking tea all day.
