The 'cortisol cocktail' — orange juice, coconut water, and a pinch of sea salt — is everywhere right now, promising to fight 'adrenal fatigue'. Here's an honest look at what it actually does, and how to make a version that works harder.
What's actually in it (and what it does)
The classic mix: 1/2 cup orange juice + 1/2 cup coconut water + 1/4 tsp sea salt (+ optional cream of tartar for potassium).
Honest take: it's a tasty electrolyte drink — vitamin C, potassium, sodium. Hydration and minerals genuinely matter when you're stressed. But it doesn't directly 'flush cortisol', and 'adrenal fatigue' isn't a recognized medical diagnosis.
The upgraded version (where adaptogens come in)
If your goal is actually managing high stress, pair the electrolyte drink with what does have evidence for cortisol: ashwagandha (the most-studied), holy basil, and consistent sleep.
Our routine: cortisol cocktail in the morning for hydration + ashwagandha in the evening for the stress response itself. The drink is the ritual; the adaptogen does the heavy lifting.
